Presidential Cup II Recap - Feb 26th, 2017
The Presidential Cup II Recap
I want to thank all 95 players who came out this past Saturday to play disc golf on one of the most beautiful February days ever. I appreciate the pre registers as well! A big shout out to Kirk Flagg for taking 100's of pictures! Great Job and thank you.
The True Life Church hosted Gateway's Presidential Cup II which was the PDGA kick off to Disc Golf Monkey's "Make Disc Golf Great Again Tour". A big thanks to Pastor Dan and his congregation for both letting us hold the event, and for providing food for all the players and staff.
The 70 degree day was welcomed by all, unlike the OB's that make True Life's Tournament layout so tough. Everyone is forced to play shots that must be accurate, and the slightest lack in concentration can result in a 1-3 stroke swing! Consistent and accuracy are a must at True Life, and by looking at the Leaderboard finesse was a key to victory.
The open field was full and stacked as many of the states best were here, along with some stellar players out of Oklahoma. In what seemed like quite a battle for 1st Place in Open, the title ended up being taken home in a playoff by long time local Doug Wiegand. With a descent first round of 49 and a great 2nd round of 45, Doug's 14 under was enough to put him in a three way tie for 1st with Chris Hutchinson and Tim Sullivan.
Other winners included:
Open Women (2) - Staci Healey over Tara Why by 2... 130
Adv Men (26) - Toby Rector over David Christie by 2... 100
Adv Mast (6) - Ray Preznell over Dennis Dupree by 4... 104
Int Men (24) - was taken down by Nick the Preacher DeRosa over Derek Wilson by one stroke... 108. 1st-4th was only separated by 3 strokes and 5 players were in that battle n as well!
Int Women (1) - Brittany Stanley... 149
Rec Men (12) - Zachary Lawson over William Thorburn by 6... 121
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO CASHED!!
