Kellogg Lake's Big Splash Open Recap - Apr 21st, 2014
The 1st Kellogg Lake Big Splash Open produced in cooperation with, the Carthage Convention and Visitors Bureau, was held a week ago in Carthage, MO. Kellogg's permanent 12 hole course was made into a temporary 18 with 6 baskets being added (thanks Kyle, Jake, and Zack for the use of the M-Traps). The course proved to be very difficult with a wide array of scoring. The best score of -14, by the one and only John E McCray (of Clearwater, FL), was remarkable considering the course lay out and wind conditions. Only the top 5 pros finished under par, and there were no Amateur players to do so. This does not happen often and proves the difficulty of the course & wind conditions.
There was a BYO Partner Doubles Friday. Sixteen players with 4 teams in each of the two divisions (Pro & Am) competed and practiced. There were 54 in attendance for the Big Splash Open on Saturday. Bringing 70 players to a new course/tournament was a great start! We now have something to build and approve upon for next year!
Winners of the Big Splash Open were:
John E McCray (Open) -14
Tara Why (Open Women) +27
Zach Rogers (Advanced) Even (Won in a Play Off over Mike Porter)
Madison Rogers (Advanced Women) +30
Scott Elam (Advanced Masters) +10
Joe Teater (Advanced Grand Masters) +14
Dalton Lemons (Intermediate) +2
Wes Rose (Recreational) +21
Congratulations t each of the above and all the others who cashed in their divisions.
I would like to thank the City of Carthage, Wendy Douglas, Allan Bull, and the Carthage Convention & Visitors Bureau for their support of this tournament. Without them this event could not have happened.
Until next time (In Harrison), see ya soon!
