Lebanon Ice Bowl Recap - Feb 20th, 2024

The 16th Annual Lebanon Ice Bowl definitely lived up to it's name this year. Icicles could be seen hanging from the baskets with snow flurries giving everyone a great wind read!

First and foremost thank you to the sponsors of this tournament Lebanon Parks & Rec and Patriots Gold & Silver!

A special thanks to John Shelton (Lebanon Parks Director) for all his support. Thank you to Brandy Monnahan, Rollin Clammie, and Amanda Donnelly for all your help at the event. Thank you to Team Monkey: Jonathon Chambless, Kevin Carder, Justin Hare, and Ashley Lucas for helping with the tournament. Thank you to all who brought food to provide lunch to the players and all who donated to the raffle!

I am very grateful for the generosity of the players that came out Saturday and helped by making donations, putting in for the Ace Pot, bringing canned goods, and buying raffle tickets! Collectively we were able to raise $2,000 dollars that will go to benefit L-Life Food Pantry! When I told John Shelton how much we raised he said "Wow great job. This tournament has been such a great help to the community and the support of the parks. The play that the disc golfers bring to the park is crazy. Everyone is talking about it." There is a lot of heart in the disc golf community and I'm so glad we can come together for these events to share the sport and give back to others.

There were 78 players that came out to compete in this tournament and 10 divisions were represented.

First place results in each division are listed below:

MPO- Allen Heston -16
FPO- Brandy Monnahan +12
MP40- Russ Disc Golf Monkey Burns -6
MP50- Chris Neff -4
MA1- Matthew Williams -7
MA40- Joe Linkins +1

Congratulations to the hot round shooters of the day! Allen Heston shot a 1030 in the 1st Round on Jared Hilton Memorial and won the MPO division! Micah Noble also had a hot round and fought his way into second place by shooting a 1030 in Round 2 on Winfrey!

Matthew Williams and Christian Polovich were neck in neck battling for first place in MA1 the entire tournament neither yielding to the other. In the end a playoff hole was needed to decide the winner and Matthew Williams came out on top!

Congratulations to Justin Warren on his hot start to the season by getting his second tournament win in a row for MA2!

Congratulations to all players who cashed in the tournament!

Congratulations to our CTP winners:
Womens CTP- Esmerelda Dodson
Any disc CTP- Jacob Eaves

Also, Congratulations to Chris Ryan who was the big raffle winner and took home a Prodigy Basket!

Bear Hollow Ice Bowl Players Meeting - Jan 17th, 2024

Patriot’s Gold & Silver presents: The 10th Annual Bear Hollow Ice Bow Players’ Meeting

Welcome Back! As 2023 left, 2024 arrived with a vengeance bringing freezing temperatures that will be remembered for a long time to come. This year’s Reflection Tour kicks off the year with the Bear Hollow Ice Bowl that Nick Helm spear headed 10 years ago. He continues to make it happen, and I want to say thanks for all the behind the scenes work you put in. Thanks and great work!

Welcome to the Patriot’s Gold & Silver 10th Annual Bear Hollow Ice Bowl! Thank you Jeff Ford for jumping on board as the title sponsor again this year. Worth mentioning, this event is where I first met Jeff. He was eager to help out sponsoring, and continues to be a main contributor every year since!

I am currently working on my Tour Sponsors and am excited that I have several new opportunities. By the next event I should have the full list of DGM’s Tour Sponsors! If you want information on how to sponsor an event or the tour, contact me. We cannot do what we have done for the last 15 years without sponsors.

The temperatures will be very low Saturday. The weather itself looks to be clear. People have asked what constitutes cancelling the second round. My answer is this: I want players to be safe first and foremost. That said, if there is a chance for Icee precipitation during/after the 1st round, I will 100% cancel the 2nd round. I want players to get home safely. Fortunately I have not had this happen, and with the clear but cold forecast Saturday, I am planning on two rounds. Dress and prepare accordingly.

Everyone needs to check in at the pavilion.
Round 1 tees off at 10. The official scorekeeping will be at pdga.com/score. The code is ICE. Round 1 player course and hole assignments will be posted shortly after registration closes Friday night at https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/76794. The staff will automatically receive the scores at tournament central. After the first round, you're on your own for lunch. Round 2 SHOULD start at 1, but may change based on last card. There will be an announcement by DGM staff, and round 2 assignments will be posted on the PDGA page.

Rules for the course are listed below. There will be two CTP’s (Hole 1 & Hole 2) and any disc can win. If there is any question about any throws or lies, try to make a group decision. If no decision can be made, play a provisional. When possible, consult with the course TD to determine the correct answer.

Course distances and OB rules: All concrete and walking paths are OB. In most cases, simply refer to the posted sign for rules

2023 Jungle Run Tour Recap - Jan 15th, 2024

The Disc Golf Monkey’s Jungle Run Tour 2023 Recap

(Check the first picture for the DGM Tour 2024 - Big thanks to Jack Lowe our State Coordinator for keeping everything organized)!

2023 is in the books, and it was definitely one to remember. In this 15th consecutive year of running a tour, DGM continues to make memories while pushing the sport forward. “Growing the Sport” is what we have been doing before the saying was adopted. So many players, sponsors, clubs, schools, churches, camps, etc. have been a part of watching the disc golf movement grow in our area, as disc golf has boomed world wide. Today is definitely an exciting time to be involved in the sport we all have come to love.

There is simply no way to give the following group a big enough thanks. Without the DGM tour sponsors, we would not have such an incredibly strong tour, filled with amazing tournaments that is the foundation for all local events. I speak for all players, when I say Thank You to all of DGM’s Tour Sponsors:

Innova Champion Discs, Patriots Gold & Silver, Elephant & Castle Fine Arms, Dynamic Discs, Fossa Disc Golf, Prodigy Discs, Creator Designs, MVP/Axiom Discs, Millennium Golf Discs, Discmania, 8Up, Greazy Dyes, Todd’s Exteriors LLC, Discs Unlimited, Swing Right Golf, Intuitive Body Works & Massage and Sticky Dyes

The above sponsors allow us to do many things: larger payouts, solid players packs, exceptional CTP’s (including manufacture CTP’s from Innova, Dynamic Discs, Prodigy, and MVP), large raffles (that raise money for charities), host demos/clinics, and the list goes on. Having partnerships with quality companies has been key to the success of DGM.

In 2023 DGM was part of 27 tournaments. The main tour consisted of 20+ pdga events. Along with the sanctioned events, there were a few non sanctioned that included two school tournaments. One was at the John Thomas School of Discovery in Nixa and the other was at Grace Classical Academy in Springfield. DGM also helped others host tournaments as well. No matter how small or large the events were, the effort put in to make them happen was well worth it. It’s so awesome seeing and hearing the continued appreciation, excitement, and fun being had by players of all ages and skill levels!

One of the additions to the 2023 was the introduction of the Points Challenge developed and run by Scott Elam. The points challenge featured 4 Divisions, as well as four regions. All players were eligible and there was no cost. Players had to compete in at least one event from 3 of the 4 divisions. Points were given by how the players placed. There was no minimum or maximum events that could be played, but only the best 10 tournament scores were used. Trophies were 3”x2” metal basket pendents with the 1st place being sand casted in pure silver. These were made by Jeff Ford, owner of Patriot’s Gold & Silver. Other prizes are also being given for the top 3 as well. Below are the top 3 point winners in each division. To view full results visit www.discgolfmonkey.com , click on tournaments, and select from the division you want to view on the top. Congratulations again winners.

This year was exciting as we continued to make baskets, improve corses and install new courses in several cities in two states. We had projects in Arkansas and several here in Missouri. Agee Park in Alba, Transland Trucking in Strafford, Fox Run Greenwood, AR, Laurie at the Hillbilly Disc Golf Course, Dr. Korn in Columbia, Marshfield’s Mother Road, VFW in Monett, all have either upgraded, added to, or have new courses. The excitement of being a part of watching baskets go in the ground never fades

There were a lot of highlights and I definitely want to elaborate on a few. In May, we had another fun end of the year party/tournament at Nixa’s John Thomas School of Discovery headed by Joe Shawnassey and Matt Baker. The Mother Road Open, the first PDGA B Tier was held in Marshfield back in August. In October we did a doubles event with the kids at Grace Classical Academy, where David Hyde and I installed a small 9 hole course. In November the DGM Encore was held at the Tom Wolfe Memorial course at the VFW (installed by Derek Mulvaney). So much can happen in a year and my mind can’t remember them all. It goes without saying that the more courses going in means more players will be playing! We look forward to installing more baskets in the near future.

Since the beginning of the DGM Tours, we have looked for ways to give back to communities who have invested in disc golf. In the fifteen years I am proud to have worked with many charity and non profit organizations. Our local disc golf family has been remarkable at teaming up and coming together when there is a need. Along with helping out multiple organizations, the players supporting the tour, have helped out several of our own in their time in need as well. This year the tour continued to give back in a big way. Seven different charitable organizations were helped with over $10,000 raised. A huge milestone was met as well, as we broke $40,000 in contributions to the EDGE program. To all of you who have been a part of the DGM events, take a bow! On behalf of all the charities and friends that have benefitted over the years, I say thank you so much for making so many things happen in our area through the sport we love so much!

Charity Organizations & Donations from 2023
$800 Ava Ice
$2,600 L Life Food Pantry
$1,400 Disc’n for Cheetahs
$3,010 Educational Disc Golf Experience
$860 K-9’s for Vets
$600 Veterans Foreign Wars
$1300 Children’s Day Treatment (CDT)

DGM has been in business since 1999. In 2007, 16 years ago, I took a scary leap to make DGM my full time gig. I wouldn’t trade a thing, and have very few regrets. Having run 213 PDGA events and countless non sanctioned tournaments, it was quite exciting being told by the PDGA that I am in the top 10 of running the most PDGA events by a Tournament Director. I honestly didn’t even know there was such a list, but it’s definitely a great honor. Without players, sponsors, and family support, I would not have accomplished any of this. Thank you all so much for the opportunity be a part of the Disc Golf Boom over the last 24 years!

As I was reflecting on 2023, I’m humbled and amazed by how much the sport has grown in popularity. I can’t help but think even further back when I came to Missouri back in 1992. Seeing the area go from having one course (Oak Grove), to having so many options in Springfield to play is incredible. Even better, is nearly all the small cities surrounding Springfield have a course as well. It has been fun watching new players start the sport, get involved in local events, improve their skills, and move on to getting sponsored and even touring! Being a part of this is very rewarding. There is truly something special about Disc Golf… gripping, ripping, and watching a disc fly… it doesn’t get much better!

We will see you somewhere in 2024… Keep on Flying… And Aces To You All!

DGM’s Jungle Run Tour Points Recap & Champions - Jan 1st, 2024

Jungle Run Tour Points Series Recap & Winners

The 2023 DGM Tour brought an experimental point challenge that proved to be fun and it functioned well. The Ford family and several others, asked that some kind of points system be implemented for the tour. This added push, helped me reach back out to Scott Elam, PDGA #53939, who came up with the points system. Scott resides in North Carolina, where he is very involved in the disc golf scene. We had talked about it a couple of years back, and he actually had the time and was eager to put it all into action. He worked countless hours on the spreadsheets and compiling all the data after each event. I want to give a big shout of thanks on behalf of all the players for making this a success. We appreciate all the effort Scott!

This year was an experimental test year as mentioned. After our initial review of the data and results: Scott Elam, Kevin Carder, and I believe it worked well. The points, amount of tournaments that must be played, and having to play one event from 3 of the 4 regions proved to work well. This year the first 3 players in each division will be getting a sweet metal bag tag that was promised at the beginning of the year. The 2nd & 3rd place tags were made by Kyle Potter, owner of Lazer Lab Creations (www.lazerlabcreations.com and @lazerlabcreations). These were made of stainless and bronze. The first place tag were made out of pure silver casted by Jeff Ford,
Owner of Parriot’s Gold & Silver! These are sweet and are definitely worth some bragging
rights. The first 3 places will also receive prizes along with the tags. 1st place had the option of a Lite Basket (DD, MVP, Discmania, or Innova) or a $150 gift card. The 2nd and third place will get Jungle Run Tour Discs and apparel.

In 2024 we will be doing the point challenge championship again. We plan on making it more exciting by recapping more often, raising funds for bigger & better purses, and hopefully being able to pay further into the field.

Round 1 tees off at 9. The official scorekeeping will be at pdga.com/score. The code is VFW. Round 1 player course and hole assignments will be posted shortly after registration closes Friday night at The 6th Annual DGM Encore - presented by Greazy Dyes - Benefitting the VFW Post 4207 (CEP Charity - Rated)
(https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/75129). The staff will automatically receive the scores at tournament central. Please have at least 2 players keep score. This will help eliminate the chance of mistakes. After the first round, lunch will be provided by the VFW. Donations will be accepted for the lunch. Round 2 SHOULD start at 1, but may change based on last card. There will be an announcement by DGM staff, and round 2 assignments will be posted on the PDGA page.

We will be doing a raffle to benefit the VFW. Please come prepared for this. Let’s show them our appreciation for the Tom Wolfe Memorial Disc Golf purse by giving some back. We appreciate you all!

This is the last opportunity to win a CTP and put in the raffle for the Innova Pro 28 Target ($500 value) and the MVP target. The Unbranded CTP presented by Innova is hole 6. The MVP-only CTP is hole 17. If there is any question about any throws or lies, try to make a group decision. If no decision can be made, play a provisional. When possible, consult with the course TD to determine the correct answer.
